I mean, it's not like we have a history (and very real present) of marginalizing and brutalizing people of colour and ignoring it right?
And when we're not ignoring it, it's not like there are Canadians cheering for it and calling for more, right?
"Fucking Indian", "His only mistake was leaving three witnesses",
It's not like we have a mayor in Toronto who doesn't believe White Privilege is a thing (which probably explains why he was so hostile to #BlackLivesMatterTO)
I mean, it's not like his campaign manager (who also got Rob Ford elected) is now running the campaign of Kellie Leitch, who's the favourite to lead the Conservative Party Of Canada. This lady wants us to restrict immigration based on "cultural values"...I wonder if racism is one of those values she'll value in her immigrants?
But maybe she's onto something? According to the Global News, in a recent poll post Trump's victory:
More than three-quarters of respondents (77 per cent) agreed they would consider supporting a political candidate who, “ran on a platform of stricter immigration controls, reviewing trade agreements like NAFTA to ensure they are in Canada’s best interest, shifting expenditures from international development in other countries to priorities in Canada, and getting tough on crime.”
And 68% of us think minorities (guys like me) aren't doing enough to fit in, according to the CBC
Yep. We Canadians definitely don't have anything to worry about here. I mean...what can possibly go wrong?
