It's always easy to lose sight of objective morality. People tend to get caught up in the specifics of victimizers and victims, sometimes unconsciously putting themselves into categories to maintain their own sense of self worth or privilege.
It's always helpful to remember that no matter what your persuasion, if you allow yourself to fall into the trap of siding with people that hate other people, invariably...you will be next.
The same forces that allow one to justify any number of atrocities against an "other" will do the same thing to you, once they finish with everyone else.
The news had two good examples of this this week (and it's only Wednesday).
In France, Marine LePen, leader of the Front Nationale, said following on the "success" of France's ban of Muslim veils...they are following it up with a ban on Kippahs. The traditional headwear worn by Jewish men...because "equality". Seriously.
The other example is this story of the death threats the Arizona Republic (staunchly Republican newspaper) received on the heels of their endorsement of Hillary Clinton.
To put it in perspective...here's a photo of the car of Don Bolles, investigative reporter for The Arizona Republic, who died on June 13, 1976. He was blown up for doing his job.
My goal in pointing out these two examples is simple: side with people that extol hatred as a virtue...you're next.
Just because someone "hates" Muslims today, doesn't mean they won't hate you tomorrow. Just because someone "hates" Democrats today, doesn't mean they won't hate Republicans who have a difference of opinion and vote their conscience tomorrow.
Even now you see this cross pollination of hatred being used to oppress other people. In Kansas, the solicitor general cited the 1865 Dred Scott Supreme Court case that deemed "blacks have long been “regarded as beings of an inferior order, and altogether unfit to associate with the white race, either in social or political relations; and so far inferior, that they had no rights which the white man was bound to respect; and … might justly and lawfully be reduced to slavery for his benefit.” to justify banning abortion!
Hatred knows no bounds and needs no reason. Just remember, if you are any sort of "vulnerable", you are next.
