REV. MARTIN LUTHER KING on BLMTO & PRIDE

"I have almost reached the regrettable conclusion that the Negro's great stumbling block in the stride toward freedom is NOT the White Citizen's Council-er or the Ku Klux Klanner, but the white moderate who is more devoted to "order" than to justice (like all ya'll in my TL who are so pressed with what BLMTO did yesterday); who prefers a negative peace which is the ABSENCE OF TENSION to a positive peace which is the PRESENCE OF JUSTICE (You ruined our parade! you held us hostage! waaaah! who cares about police killing people with no accountability or transparency, we wanna party! waaaah!); who constantly says "I agree with you in the goal you seek, but I can't agree with your methods of DIRECT ACTION (like holding up a parade for as long as it takes you to get a taco at TacoFest or a rib at ribfest or to get into your favourite club);" who paternalistically feels he can set the timetable for another man's freedom; who lives by the myth of time and who constantly advises the Negro to wait until a "more convenient season." (PRIDE ISN'T THE PLACE FOR THIS...despite PRIDE being started by angry Black & latino people who rioted in the face of systemic injustice)

Shallow understanding from people of goodwill is more frustrating than absolute misunderstanding from people of ill will. Lukewarm acceptance (tolerance) is much more bewildering than outright rejection (hatred)." - Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. Letters from a Birmingham Jail, April 1963

50 YEARS LATER and we still don't get it, huh?
