What's going on in the Middle East turns my stomach. This is a third rail even I won't bother touching, mainly because it goes nowhere, but after witnessing two friends on Facebook (one Jewish, one Muslim) get into it over the recent issues, I gotta say something.
Does anyone else find it ironic that the "birthplace" of the 3 major Abrahamic religions is a living hell?
People need to put down their nationalism, their religion, their hatred (ha!) and their pride and focus on the ONE thing that unites us...our common humanity.
Realize that in each other, in the person standing across from you, that you oppose so much, lies the same capacity to do good and the same capacity to do evil. We all have the same capacity to cause or alleviate suffering. We're all the same.
We need to grow up. We need to take responsibility. We need to stop turning to our governments and our religious leaders for answers and turn to each other.
Most importantly, we need to recognize ourselves in each other.
I'll let that one sink in for a minute.
Then and only then, will the madness stop. For reference...look at what Hamas is doing...look at what the Israeli government is doing...and look at what the Palestinian and Israeli families of the boys that were brutally murdered are doing. Of these three, which is likely to lead to "Peace"?
Think about it.
